English for toddlers - Fun with colors
A simple and fun English lesson for toddlers – learning colors and comparisons
Join us for a fun activity at home that will help your child learn the names of colors: blue, yellow, green, red, orange, black, and white. During this lesson, we'll also introduce the concepts of big and small.
What will you need?
- Lego Duplo bricks in the colors listed
- Printouts from our website with color names and illustrations of Lego buildings with the inscriptions: SMALL, BIG
- Ping-pong ball
- Straw
How to run the game?
The parent spreads out the printouts on the floor. Behind each color are two sheets: one labeled "small," the other "big." Each printout features illustrations of simple towers made of blocks in a given color: one small, one large, or a question mark.
Next to each color we scatter the appropriate Lego Duplo bricks.
The child blows a ping-pong ball through a straw so that the ball stops on one of the prints.
The toddler's task is to build a tower according to the pattern on this printout - for example: "build a small tower with yellow blocks" or "build a large tower with blue blocks".
Additional rule to develop creativity:
If the ball lands on a printout with the word "small" and a question mark (?), the child decides what kind of tower to build. They must adhere to the specified color and size (big or small), but the structure will be their own, with no model to follow.
Effects of play:
Children reinforce color names and learn simple vocabulary for comparing sizes. This game stimulates attention, fine motor skills, and develops communication in English. Additionally, this new option fosters imagination and independent thinking.
Want your child to learn through play? This is a great way to introduce English naturally, in the comfort of your home.
